Brief - 200 word coverage of charity event for community publication
2017 marked our 8th, hugely successful, annual Chesed Fruit Salad. Established by Jeremy and Jacqui Marshall and rolled out close to Tu B'Shevat each year, the event is an opportunity for HGSS to continue to do some good for some of those in the wider community who can benefit our help.
This year, it played out like this: litres of fruit were kindly donated from all corners of our community - from shul members, Kerem House kids, Brownies... And also from several local supermarkets. After shabbat on 28 January, dozens of people came together in the shul hall to wash, peel and chop the fruit and prepare an enormous fruit salad. Carefully packaged into 800 bespoke branded individual portions, these were chilled overnight and hand delivered to 25 homes and shelters across the capital - a delicious, fresh, healthy snack for each of the people who live in those centres.
Special thanks goes not only to all who donated and chopped fruit, but also to the team of shul members (and one uber driver!) who kindly couriered all the portions across London on the Sunday morning. And of course to Rebbetzen Freda, Joy and Graham for all the planning.
